The achievements of NORTH Link’s Northern Industry Student Placement Program (NISPP) were recognised at the 2017 Northern Business Achievement Awards held in December.

NISPP connects local businesses with tertiary students so that businesses benefit from their expertise and students gain valuable workplace experience. In 2017, 116 students were placed in local businesses and other organisations as part of the program.

The Unitemps Student Placement of the Year Award went to Rebecca Budge, who is studying a Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Science at La Trobe University. Rebecca, who is now on a study tour in Bosnia, implemented media strategy at the Inner North Community Foundation.

Ben Rodgers, Executive Officer of the Foundation, explained that Rebecca made a great contribution and her cross-disciplinary skills were a real benefit.

“We gave her a range of tasks and they were all done well. I was really pleased with Rebecca’s dedication and initiative,” he said. “She achieved meaningful results for us that will help our operations into the future.”

The Northern Melbourne RDA Student Placement Employer of the Year Award went to Moreland City Council for hosting four students – from Melbourne Polytechnic, RMIT University and La Trobe University – in a variety of roles.

On receiving the award, Economic Development staff at Moreland emphasised their commitment to the program.

“All of us at Business Moreland are thrilled to receive the 2017 Student Placement Employer of the Year Award. We’re very proud of all the students who participated and the outcomes that they achieved. We look forward to hosting students again in 2018.”

NORTH Link delivers NISPP in conjunction with the region’s four tertiary education institutions – La Trobe University, RMIT University, Melbourne Polytechnic and Kangan Institute.
