A Morning of Fresh Produce, Industry Insights and Connections: Tour of the Melbourne Market
On Tuesday, 8th September, Melbourne’s North Food Group brought members and partners together for an early-morning behind-the-scenes tour of Melbourne Market in Epping, offering a unique insight into the people, businesses and operations that keep Melbourne’s fresh food supply chain moving.
Starting bright and early at 6 am, attendees stepped inside one of Victoria’s most important fresh produce hubs to experience the energy of the Market as it comes to life.
Seeing the Fresh Food Supply Chain in Action
The tour provided a rare opportunity to explore the Melbourne Market site and see the scale and pace of activity behind the fresh produce that reaches businesses, retailers and consumers across Victoria.
From the trading floor to the movement and distribution of produce, attendees gained a greater understanding of the many people and processes involved in getting fresh food from growers and suppliers through to the wider community.
The experience highlighted just how interconnected Victoria’s food and beverage ecosystem is – and the important role Melbourne Market plays within it.
Meeting the People Behind Melbourne Market
A key part of the morning was hearing directly from the people who work within the Market and gaining a closer look at the businesses operating behind the scenes.
Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions, exchange ideas and learn more about the day-to-day realities of operating within such a large and dynamic fresh food environment.
It was a valuable reminder that behind every box of fresh produce is a network of growers, traders, wholesalers, transport operators, buyers and other businesses working together.
Connecting Melbourne’s North Food & Beverage Community
Beyond the tour itself, the morning was a valuable opportunity for members and partners to connect.
Over breakfast and networking, attendees shared experiences, discussed opportunities and strengthened relationships across Melbourne’s food and beverage community.
These connections are an important part of what Melbourne’s North Food Group aims to create: opportunities for businesses to step outside their own operations, learn from others and build relationships across the broader industry.
Thank You
Melbourne’s North Food Group would like to sincerely thank the Melbourne Market Authority team for welcoming our members and partners and sharing their knowledge and insights.
We also thank everyone who joined us for the early start and brought their curiosity, questions and enthusiasm to the morning.
Experiences like this provide a valuable opportunity to see the food supply chain from a different perspective and better understand the people, businesses and infrastructure that help keep Melbourne fed.
We look forward to continuing to create opportunities for our members to connect, learn and discover more of the businesses and places shaping Melbourne’s food and beverage industry.
